Vascular Lesions

Acquired vascular malformations, including non-cancerous skin growths, tumors, and birthmarks. Collections of abnormally dense blood vessels may be present at birth or arise shortly after. Lesions range in shape, size, and color. Common causes include genetics, hormonal changes, trauma, injury, ultraviolet exposure or environmental factors.

Classifications of Vascular Lesions

Telangiectasia is characterized by small, dilated blood vessels visible near the skin surface, also known as spider veins for their web like appearance. Commonly found on the face – mainly on the nose, chin and around the cheeks. Acquired lesions may occur spontaneously, or may be caused by trauma, ultraviolet exposure, extreme elements or environmental factors. Telangiectasia can also develop in lower extremities – women are affected more often as a potential response to hormonal changes, pregnancy, birth, menopause or genetics.

Hemangiomas are non-cancerous skin growths formed by an abnormal collection of excess blood vessels located on or underneath the skin’s surface. Superficial lesions can be flat, raised or elevated, forming red to reddish-purple nodules, papules, or they may appear as a birthmark.

Lesions vary greatly, in colour, shape and size. Hemangiomas can be found anywhere on the body, but are commonly found on face, neck, scalp, chest or back. It is uncertain what causes to group the blood vessels together but there may be a genetic component involved.

Cherry Angiomas are characterized by small, round, cherry-red papules or macules containing an abnormal proliferation of blood vessels. They may appear smooth or slightly raised. Cherry Angiomas are commonly found on the surface of the skin mainly affecting shoulders, torso and arms. Angiomas may increase in number and size with age. The underlying cause has not been determined.

Treatment Protocol:
Requires a minimum of 3-5 consecutive treatment sessions, 4-6 weeks apart. Maximum results are generally noticeable 2-4 months post treatment.
Maintenance treatment every 6 months is recommended.
